The FDA has issued a recall for chicken broth sold at Walmart in nine states due to concerns over spoilage, urging customers to dispose of the product and request a refund.
The recall affects over 2,000 cases of “Great Value Chicken Broth” in 48 oz. aseptic paper cartons, sold in six-unit retail cases. The issue stems from a potential packaging defect that could compromise the product’s sterility and lead to spoilage. The affected cartons have a “Best Used By” date of March 25, 2026, and are marked with the batch code 98F09234 and UPCs 007874206684 for retail units and 078742066844 for cases.
Tree House Foods Inc., the manufacturer, initiated the recall voluntarily on December 11, 2024, distributing 2,023 cases to 242 Walmart locations across Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. The recall continues, and the company has not issued a press release. Walmart responded promptly by removing the affected products from store shelves and notifying customers to discard the product and seek a refund.
This recall is not the first for Great Value products. Earlier, Great Value 100% Apple Juice was recalled due to high inorganic arsenic levels, and another FDA recall affected certain Lay’s Classic Potato Chips bags for containing undeclared milk, posing a risk to people with milk allergies.
For those affected, the FDA and manufacturers encourage vigilance and prompt action to ensure consumer safety.
