Former President Joe Biden was recently taken to the hospital for further testing after doctors found an area of concern on his prostate during a routine physical.
According to The New York Times, a spokesperson said, “During a standard checkup, a small nodule was detected on his prostate, prompting additional evaluation.”
CBS News noted that such findings are not unusual for men in Biden’s age group—he is currently 82—and might or might not indicate a serious issue.
Dr. Herbert Lepor, a urologist at NYU Langone, explained that nodules or elevated PSA levels can be early signs of prostate cancer, often requiring follow-up tests like MRIs or biopsies.
The CDC states that the risk of developing prostate cancer increases with age.
“All men are susceptible to prostate cancer,” the CDC explains. “Roughly 13 out of every 100 American men will be diagnosed in their lifetime, and about 2 to 3 of those will die from it.”
The CDC also emphasizes that age is the most significant risk factor. Men with a family history or those who are African American face an even higher risk.
Biden recently appeared on ABC’s “The View” and dismissed claims made in a new book suggesting people close to him had concerns about his mental sharpness in the latter part of his presidency.
“They’re wrong,” Biden said. “There’s no evidence for that.”
CNN’s Jake Tapper, co-author of Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, spoke on-air about their findings. He claimed that Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the White House physician, warned aides that Biden’s spinal issues were so advanced that another fall might leave him needing a wheelchair for the rest of his term.
Tapper alleged that the White House downplayed or concealed Biden’s physical and cognitive challenges. He pointed out efforts to obscure Biden’s worsening shuffle while walking, including surrounding him with aides during public appearances to prevent or catch falls.
“This was part of a broader effort to hide the reality of how much the president was struggling,” Tapper said, adding that not only the media and public, but even staffers and Democratic lawmakers were kept in the dark about the full extent of Biden’s decline.
