I PROVED TO MY HUSBAND THAT HE SHOULD PAY RENT TO LIVE IN HIS OWN HOUSE.
One evening, while I was putting our children to bed, my husband decided to tackle some chores. He proudly said, “I did the dishes and vacuumed today. See? I’m HELPING YOU OUT!”
Without a word, I grabbed a piece of paper, wrote out an invoice, and handed it to him:
Rent: $1,500/month
Utilities: $150/month
Total Due: $1,650
My hubby looked unpleasantly surprised.
He looked at me, utterly baffled. “Wait, what? Why are you charging me rent? This is my house, remember?!” he exclaimed.
I replied calmly, “Well, if you’re just ‘helping out,’ I figured YOU MUST BE A GUEST. And guests pay rent.”
He got the message.
