87-Year-Old Man Returns Home from Hospital, Sees His Stuff Had Been Taken Out of the House – Story of the Day

When Chris Harvey, an 87-year-old man, was hospitalized after a heart scare, he reached out to his daughter, Angelina, for help. She lived in Miami and was unable to come to Austin, Texas, to assist him because she had no more paid time off at work. Instead, she asked her son, Peter, to go check on his grandfather and make sure his house was ready for him when he returned from the hospital.

However, Peter and his wife, Hannah, had their own plans. They saw the situation as an opportunity to take advantage of Chris’s declining health, believing they would inherit his house. They decided to remodel the home, hoping to secure it as their own. Peter reluctantly agreed to go to Austin, accompanied by Hannah, under the pretense of caring for his grandfather but with ulterior motives.

When Chris was finally discharged from the hospital, he returned home only to find that much of his furniture was gone, and his house seemed to be under renovation. Surprised and confused, he eventually encountered Peter, who explained that they were remodeling the house as a surprise for him, claiming it was in need of repairs. Chris was pleased, although he was curious about his belongings, which Peter said were in storage.

Over the following days, Chris overheard a conversation between Peter and Hannah that revealed their true intentions. They had been preparing for Chris’s death, expecting to inherit the house and spend money on renovations under that assumption. Chris overheard them discussing how they planned to keep the house for themselves, which deeply hurt him.

In response, Chris decided to teach them a lesson. He pretended that he was planning to move into a nursing home, telling Peter and Hannah that they could have the house. They were thrilled, and renovations continued. But when the house was ready, Chris invited friends and family over for a housewarming party, revealing his true feelings. He made a toast, thanking Peter and Hannah for their work on the house, but then exposed their plans to everyone, including their deceitful intentions. Chris declared that the house would go to charity after his death, and not to Peter or Hannah.

Angry and embarrassed, Peter and Hannah were forced to leave the party, and Chris’s relationship with them was effectively severed. He later informed Angelina of her son’s actions, though he didn’t want to hurt her sooner. Despite her shame, Angelina acknowledged her father’s decision, but she warned him about severing ties with Peter completely. Chris lived for another 11 years, and as he had planned, he sold his house and donated the proceeds to charity.
