A bus driver, George Harris, was nearing the end of his shift when a snowstorm hit. Annoyed and in a hurry to meet his fiancée, Angelica, he grew impatient as passengers boarded. One elderly woman, wearing a dark overcoat, struggled to find her wallet. As she fumbled through her bag, George became frustrated, fearing she would delay him further.
The woman explained she had gone into the city to buy an engagement gift for her granddaughter and seemed distressed when she couldn’t find her wallet or phone. Despite her sincere apologies, George, uninterested in her story, harshly told her to either pay or leave. She tried to explain that she had recently had knee surgery and couldn’t walk far, but George dismissed her, ordering her off the bus. She left, looking small and defeated, and George, in a rush, drove away without a second thought.
On his way to meet Angelica’s parents, George thought about his fiancée. She was beautiful and smart, and although her wealthy parents didn’t approve of him, Angelica stood by him. This evening was his chance to make a good impression when meeting her family for the first time.
At Angelica’s house, George nervously adjusted his tie before ringing the doorbell. Angelica greeted him warmly, and they entered the home, where he met her mother, Meredith. As they toured the house, George noticed a photo of the elderly woman he had kicked off the bus earlier that day. He was stunned to learn the woman in the picture was Angelica’s grandmother, whom Meredith described as a difficult person.
Soon, Angelica’s father arrived, helping the elderly woman into the house. She looked cold and upset. After sitting down, the grandmother explained how she had lost her wallet while shopping and believed someone had stolen it. She also mentioned the unkind bus driver who had thrown her off the bus. When she saw George, she immediately recognized him.
The realization hit Angelica hard. She turned to George in shock, asking if it was true. George tried to explain, but Angelica, horrified by his actions, couldn’t look at him the same way. In a heartbreaking moment, she removed her engagement ring and handed it to him, saying she couldn’t marry him. George, devastated, begged for her forgiveness, but Angelica’s decision was final.
As George left the house, walking alone in the snowstorm, he realized he had lost Angelica forever, knowing he wasn’t good enough for her after what he had done.
