I Woke up to My Husband Saying: ‘Hush, She’s Sleeping’ — Story of the Day
I always did my best for my husband, but it never seemed enough. One day, I overheard him talking to a woman in the hall, and that was the final straw.
I work as a project manager at a bank, and my current project is demanding. I often come home late and sometimes on weekends. But my work isn’t the only responsibility I juggle—there’s also the house and Aiden, who has become distant and unsupportive. He doesn’t help with chores, cook, or even shop, leaving me to handle everything.
One evening, I came home to Aiden complaining, “Where have you been?” I tried to explain my late work hours, but he didn’t care, just wanted dinner. I went grocery shopping and came back to more complaints. He ate and left me to clean the kitchen. I wondered if he could at least wash his own plate, but I was too tired to argue.
The next morning, I was sick, but instead of sympathy, Aiden’s first words were, “Where’s breakfast?” He left without waiting for me to finish. I felt exhausted and called in sick to work. As I lay in bed, I realized how long it had been since Aiden had been kind or supportive. Even when he was wrong, he blamed me.
Later, I overheard Aiden talking to a woman in the hall, planning a weekend getaway. I was heartbroken, but it was the wake-up call I needed. I realized I deserved better.
When Aiden left for work, I changed the locks and packed up all his belongings. When he came back, he was shocked. I told him I was done and filed for divorce the next day.
A month later, the divorce was finalized. Aiden tried reaching out, but I refused to engage. Since he left, I’ve become a new person. I focus on loving and taking care of myself. With therapy, I’m healing from the emotional wounds of that toxic relationship.
